The biggest matchup of the 2010 Upward season was on and both teams looked ready for battle. With the last meeting ending in a tie, it was obvious that neither team was willing to leave with a tie or a loss.
Unfortunately, a few of the Celtics players were unable to play, but they brought a tough defense full of screens and pics which held the Hawks to one of the lowest scoring games of the season. The vast height advantage that the Celtics had really created a tough rebounding and defensive situation. The Hawks were ready and showed some real maturity by not overplaying their bigger opponents. The Hawks held the Celtics to a few points by shutting them down at half court and keeping the ball out of the lane as much as possible. The stifling defense disabled the Celtics ability to move the ball and created many jump balls, steals, and interceptions.
On offense the Hawks ran their plays perfectly and moved the ball around really well. They made great drives to the basket and even though they faced taller opponents, they rebounded well and overall controlled the ball and the pace of the game. There’s no doubt that the game would’ve been different if the missing Celtics players were in attendance, but the Hawks played with a fire never seen before and they were not going to be denied. Regardless of who they played.
The Hawks are currently undefeated and face the Pacers next week for the last game of the 2010 season. The boys are really coming together well as a team and this last game of the season promises to be one of the best!
